Gange compared with the big four

An honest look at four of the biggest times tables and maths facts apps on the App Store: MathHero, Times Tables by Genioworks, Times Tables Rock Stars and Monster Math. Including where they’re better than Gange. Peter made Gange, so read it knowing that.

MathHero

Pick MathHero if …

Your child loves a game world with a story, you want division and numbers up to 1,000 too, or you want it on an iPad, a Mac or Android. It needs no account and is free for 5 levels a day.

Pick Gange if …

You want to pay once for everything instead of a daily limit or a subscription, and want nothing linked to your child: MathHero’s privacy label links contact info, a user ID and usage to them. Gange also lets the child write the answer with a finger or say it out loud.

Times Tables (Genioworks)

Pick Times Tables (Genioworks) if …

You want a free app and don’t mind ads, or you want tables beyond 10 × 10, division, or an iPad, Mac or Android version.

Pick Gange if …

You don’t want ads in front of your child, or data used to track them (its privacy label lists usage and diagnostics). Gange picks the questions from what each child knows instead of fixed levels.

Times Tables Rock Stars

Pick Times Tables Rock Stars if …

Your child’s school already uses it: their games, class battles and the teacher’s view are all there. It has the same kind of heat map, answers out loud, division and tables up to 12 × 12.

Pick Gange if …

You want something at home without a subscription or an account on a website, with plus and minus in the same app, in Danish or another of Gange’s 12 languages. Times Tables Rock Stars is in English only.

Monster Math

Pick Monster Math if …

You want lots of game, a teacher dashboard that works with Clever or Google Classroom, or a calm mode made for children with ADHD and autism. It also covers division and works on the web and Android.

Pick Gange if …

You’d rather not give a parent email, and want no location or other data linked to your child, and no $59.99 a year. Gange covers the same plus, minus and times tables up to 10, for $1.99 once.

Where Gange falls short

How this was checked

Checked on 2026-10-26 from each app’s App Store page (US and Denmark), Apple’s own app data and the makers’ websites and help pages. Prices are US App Store prices. “Not stated” means we couldn’t confirm it, not that the app lacks it. Privacy labels are what each maker tells Apple.

The four were picked by number of ratings for times tables and maths facts apps in the US, Denmark and the UK. XtraMath, which many parents know, is no longer on the App Store.

Gange isn’t on the App Store yet. Its privacy label will say Data Not Collected: there’s no server, and handwriting and speech are understood on the iPhone itself.

Apps change their plans often. If something here is out of date, write to support@gange.theill.com and it gets fixed.
